The phoenicians tended to worship their gods mainly by prayer. This is very similar to what christians do in the modern day. They also had a range of other things that they did to worship their gods, such as sacrifice, hymns of praise and prostitution. The phoenicians had a different way of worshipping each god. Below is a brief description of what they would do to worship a couple of gods. Astarte - It was believed that every woman, when worshipping astarte, should sell themselves to men. The phoenicians believed that prostitution was the best way to worship the goddess. They also believed that every woman should sell themselves to men just before they are about to get married to worship the goddess. Baal - It was highly gruesome to worship baal. This was because the phoenicians believed that the best way to worship baal was to sacrifice a child. This was apparently to be awarded with trust from the god, because he can see that you are willing to murder the closest child to you for him. Some other ways of worshiping was to have huge festivals inside the temples. These festivals included loud yelling, dancing, screaming and even cutting themselves on the arms and hitting each other as a form of sacrifice.
